Who we are
Calvary cares about one thing more than anything else, Jesus Christ. What we mean is that the relationship we have with Him has given us a transforming hope. Our mission is simple: to introduce as many people as possible to Him so that they too can experience not only the hope that we’ve found, but also the love He’s shown us.
Where we come from
The first meeting of Mission Baptist Church of Norwich, NY happened on February 1, 1897. Later that year the church was reorganized under the name of Calvary Baptist Church. There has been quite a history of faithful servants ministering to this community since then. In 1942, Calvary became a charter member of what was then the Empire State Fellowship of Regular Baptist Churches (now simply called the Northeast Fellowship). It was in 1958 that the idea of purchasing land to tailor build a space for this growing ministry was first presented. Shortly thereafter, the 5-acre plot on which our current building rests was purchased. The original structure was built in 1967 and has been added onto a few times since then. 1982 marks the beginning chapter for our school, Valley Heights Christian Academy. In 2008, the Calvary Cares food distribution program started it’s first distribution of food to less fortunate and low income families.
Where we’re headed
More than ever, Calvary Baptist Church is committed to fostering a community built around the love of Christ and the hope that He brings us. Hope for the future. Hope for better. Hope for progress. As we move forward as a church family, belonging remains at the center of who we are as followers of Christ.
